Feel My Legs – I’m a Racer 2014
I was able to participate in exactly half of this year’s Feel My Legs and to put it short, I loved the event. While the 2014 edition was the 9th year of the race, it was my first.
Even though it is a race with points handed out for placing in the top five, I feel like the riders were competing more against the hills than each other. These are some of the most challenging streets in Los Angeles and it takes something special to complete all ten climbs.
When you come upon an Eldred or Fargo, you have that moment of comtemplation of how you can accomplish that climb. Then you ask yourself why. As you climb, you’re constantly questioning the likelihood of reaching the top.
You know there’s a lot of pain involved, but the reward is greater. Knowing that the other riders were making that effort made it feel like a community. It’s the closest I’ll ever get to being in a Fight Club.
I couldn’t stay for it’s entirety due to family emergency, but I’m already looking forward to next year’s edition. Here’s my footage from the day:
